Often overlooked, ecology reveals some of the most intriguing names on the Serbian political scene. The struggle for self-interest divides people into those who want to protect nature and defend their future, and those who see a profit in it. CINS found itself between two groups where we reported about great stories.
Subsidized as green energy, small hydropower plants in Serbia have led to many problems – the environmental issues in the local communities are aggravated, rivers are drying up and fish are endangered. In the meantime, the state encourages the construction of small hydropower plants through taxpayers' money, and investors that are connected to the authorities profit the most.
