Journalists’ awards for reporting about the topics covering environment protection and sustainable development were announced today within the Project of Civil Society Support in Serbia in the field of the environment (CSOnnect) organized by Regional Center for the Environment in Eastern and Central Europe (REC).
Second award in the investigative reporting category was given to Milica Stojanović i Dragana Prica, a journalist and associate of Center for Investigative Reporting of Serbia (CINS) for a story that coveres problems in the construction process in the regional landfill in Novi Sad.
Investigation point out that even thou the Town assembly adopted the Regional waste management plan which envisaged the construction of the landfill six years ago, to the present date only a few documents have been adopted, at the cost of 6.5 million RSD. The construction works have not yet started.
The new landfill, that is, the regional centre, should also resolve the issues such as storing of waste at inadequate official landfills, and forming of illegal dumps. In this area, there are 74 illegal dumps, as shown by the most recent data available – dating back from 2011.
