At least 35 attacks, threats, and obstructions of journalists at work have been recorded in the vicinity of \u0106acilend, according to journalists\u2019 associations and the database of attacks on journalists maintained by the Independent Journalists\u2019 Association of Serbia (NUNS)<\/em>.<\/p>

In 10 cases, proceedings were initiated before the First Basic Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Belgrade<\/em>. So far, no one has been penalized; most cases are still ongoing, while one of the 10 was resolved by a complaint dismissal. In addition, one case saw the prosecution decide not to initiate proceedings.<\/p>

The Center for Investigative Journalism of Serbia (CINS)<\/em> analyzed how far the investigations into incidents around \u0106acilend have progressed and compiled the cases in which the identities of participants could be established \u2013 including Milo\u0161 Marin<\/strong>, previously convicted of drug possession, kidnapping, and abuse; Radmila Ko\u010dovi\u0107<\/strong> from the Association of War Volunteers of 1912\u20131918, their Descendants and Supporters<\/em>; Branko Lau\u0161evi\u0107<\/strong>, a Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)<\/em> activist whose parents are employed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP); Vladan Sretenovi\u0107<\/strong>, previously convicted of murder and robbery; and Jelenko Pijevac<\/strong> and Aleksandar \u0160ulc<\/strong>, participants in incidents at the 2025 protests.<\/p>

Insajder<\/em> reporter Stefan Milju\u0161<\/strong> was reporting from a gathering in Belgrade on May 1, 2025. The atmosphere was tense. At Nikola Pa\u0161i\u0107 Square, Milju\u0161 noticed that a young man was filming him with a phone.<\/p>

\u201cWhy are you filming me while I\u2019m doing my job?\u201d Milju\u0161 asked him.<\/p>

\u201cYou\u2019d better run,\u201d the young man replied, then hit the journalist twice on the arm and knocked the phone he was filming with out of his hand.<\/p>

Milju\u0161 nevertheless managed to steady the camera and film another, almost identical man standing nearby. He, too, addressed Milju\u0161 in a raised voice: \u201cGo do your job somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>
