Police stopped her and issued a speeding ticket but failed to file a violation report for breaching the driving ban. If they had done so, her driver\u2019s license could have been revoked, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/kako-je-producentkinja-pinka-izbegla-oduzimanje-dozvole-pre-nesrece\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as previously reported by CINS<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Had the system not failed at that time, Kova\u010devi\u0107 might not have been behind the wheel nine months later, when she hit a young girl with her car \u2013 causing severe, life-threatening injuries.<div class=\"antrefile-container\"><div class=\"antrefile\"><div class=\"antrefilecont\"><p><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-d530a40c-7fff-7adc-1248-6220cf0d9d31\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Noto Serif', serif; background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;\">Attorney Marko Panti\u0107, whose clients include individuals facing traffic violation cases, previously told CINS that violating a driving ban is one of the most serious offenses under the Law on Road Traffic Safety.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <em>Internal Control Sector<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Ministry of the Interior initially denied that Kova\u010devi\u0107 had a driving ban and that the police were required to file a violation report.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, after CINS\u2019s journalist sent the IAS a misdemeanor charge as proof that Kova\u010devi\u0107 was under a driving ban at the time of the August 2023 stop, the <em>Internal Control Sector<\/em> initiated proceedings against the officers involved.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By late July of this year, the <em>Internal Control Sector<\/em> had completed its review and submitted a report to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anti-Corruption Department<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supreme Public Prosecution Office in Belgrade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In its response to CINS, the <em>Internal Control Sector<\/em> stated that the report concerns \u201cestablishing possible oversight in the work of traffic police officers.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><b>Sanja Radivojevi\u0107 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Belgrade Centre for Human Rights<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> explained to CINS that the <em>Internal Control Sector<\/em> must carry out an investigation and \u2013 if there are indications of a criminal offense \u2013 notify the prosecution.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prosecutor\u2019s Office confirmed for CINS that a case has been opened and that the allegations in the report are being looked into.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a reminder, Nina Kova\u010devi\u0107 was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/izrecena-prvostepena-presuda-producentkinji-pinka-zbog-saobracajne-nesrece\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">convicted by the court of first instance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to two years and ten months in prison for hitting the young girl with her car in June last year. She was also issued a five-year driving ban.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In determining her sentence, the court took into consideration that she had been driving in the yellow lane, exceeding the speed limit, and was in a state of severe intoxication.
