The Center for Investigative Journalism of Serbia (CINS) was awarded first place for the article \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/cins-inside-snss-call-center-hostess-agency-vote-buying-and-millions-in-cash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CINS Inside SNS\u2019s Call Center: Hostess Agency, Vote Buying, and Millions in Cash<\/a>\u201d, authored by Ivana Milosavljevi\u0107, Teodora \u0106ur\u010di\u0107, and Vladimir Kosti\u0107.<\/p><p>Jury member Perica Gunji\u0107 provided an explanation for their decision:<\/p><p>\u201cThis investigative report is a convincing example of journalism that has significantly impacted the perception of the electoral process in Serbia. The so-called <em>undercover<\/em> investigation was conducted carefully, while respecting ethical and professional standards, which is particularly challenging in such investigations, but was carried out to perfection. The reporters expertly navigated numerous ethical dilemmas and risks, particularly those pertaining to journalist safety. The story provided unprecedented evidence of organized electoral corruption and vote buying during the election campaign in Serbia.\u201d<\/p><p>The jury added that this was an example of &#8220;exceptional professional standards that could be studied in journalism schools, particularly when it comes to undercover journalism,&#8221; describing it as &#8220;a local mini Watergate.&#8221;<\/p><p>The jury, consisting of Ljubica Gojgi\u0107, journalist at RTV Vojvodina and editor\/host of the show \u201cPravi ugao\u201d, Perica Gunji\u0107, editor-in-chief of the Cenzolovka portal, and Tamara Filipovi\u0107 Stevanovi\u0107, General Secretary at NUNS, selected 20 stories (out of 36) for the final awards shortlist. The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network of Serbia (BIRN) authored three of the four stories that received awards.<\/p><p>Second place went to Gordana Andri\u0107 and Aleksandar \u0110or\u0111evi\u0107 for the article <a href=\"https:\/\/birn.rs\/milioni-evra-izvuceni-na-javnim-konkursima-za-mlade-i-decu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Fake Payments, Fictional Lectures: How Millions of Euros for Vulnerable Groups Ended up in the Pockets of Others<\/em><\/a>.<\/p><p>This year, two stories tied for third place: An\u0111ela Milivojevi\u0107\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/birn.rs\/bila-sam-nemocna-ispovesti-zena-i-devojaka-sirom-srbije-o-uzasnim-posledicama-osvetnicke-pornografije\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>&#8220;I Was Powerless&#8221;: Confessions of Women and Girls Across Serbia About the Horrific Consequences of Revenge Pornography<\/em><\/a> and Radmila Markovi\u0107\u2019s Belgrade \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/birn.rs\/beograd-divlja-gradnja\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A Paradise for Illegal Construction and Dubious Legalizations: BIRN Uncovers Nearly 500,000 Questionable Square Meters<\/em><\/a>.<\/p><p>The organizers have said their aim is to draw attention to and promote the exceptional achievements of investigative journalists in Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, and Turkey, in addition to Serbia, and to increase the visibility of quality investigative journalism in these countries.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At this year&#8217;s EU Investigative Journalism Awards in the Western Balkans and Turkey, CINS journalists won first place for their call center investigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1388,"featured_media":39286,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1586,1497],"tags":[1655,2231],"class_list":["post-39305","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-awards-and-other-recognitions","category-news","tag-awards","tag-sns-call-center","ciTrackContent"],"acf":[],"featured_image_url":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/A7A943B7-2FAC-41B2-A4B0-7A3567138FC3-383-000000C73BD269C3-scaled.jpg","author_additional":false,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/39305","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1388"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=39305"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/39305\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":39307,"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/39305\/revisions\/39307"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/39286"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=39305"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=39305"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=39305"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
