We looked into how Serbia illegally exported 4.7 million euros worth of rockets to the Asian country just days after a coup that led to civil war there. The story, which was created in collaboration with the Myanmar organization <em>Myanmar Witness<\/em> and the Dutch organization <em>Lighthouse<\/em>, is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/serbian-rockets-sent-to-myanmar-even-after-2021-coup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p><p>In its explanation, the jury noted that information about the bloody conflict in Myanmar was difficult to obtain even for the world\u2019s major media outlets:<\/p><p>\u201cHowever, CINS and BIRN journalists managed to present hard-to-reach data to citizens and once again raised the question of why Serbia is ignoring <em>United Nations<\/em> resolutions and violating its own regulations in the arms trade, with its weapons ending up on the world\u2019s bloodiest battlefields.\u201d<\/p><p>In this category, the \u201cDejan Anastasijevi\u0107\u201d award went to journalists of the <em>Vojvodina Investigative and Analytical Centre <\/em>(VOICE), <strong>Milo\u0161 Kati\u0107<\/strong> and <strong>Sla\u0111ana Glu\u0161\u010devi\u0107<\/strong>. Their story was about the state sale of property worth 1.82 billion euros for a much lower price to a loss-making company.<\/p><p>BIRN\u2019s story on Macedonian companies owned by <strong>Predrag Koluvija<\/strong>, the owner of <em>Jovanjica<\/em>, was also shortlisted.<\/p><p>In addition to online media, the award is handed out in two other categories \u2013 print and electronic media.<\/p><p>Journalist of <em>Vreme<\/em> weekly, <strong>Jovana Gligorijevi\u0107<\/strong>, won the print media award for her article \u201cSexual Violence in The Petnica Research Center \u2013 Conspiracy of Silence that Lasted a Long Time\u201d. Nominees included journalists <strong>Sa\u0161a Dragojlo<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Nemanja Rujevi\u0107<\/strong>.<\/p><p>In the category of electronic media, the award went to<em> N1\u2019s<\/em> <strong>Mladen Savatovi\u0107<\/strong>, with <em>N1<\/em> television also winning the remaining two nominations, specifically <strong>Jelena Mirkovi\u0107<\/strong> and <strong>Vanja \u0110uri\u0107<\/strong>.<\/p><p>This year, a total of 67 journalists applied for the \u201cDejan Anastasijevi\u0107\u201d award for excellence in investigative journalism, and their applications were considered by a jury consisting of <em>Vreme<\/em> editor-in-chief <strong>Filip \u0160varm<\/strong>, journalist and teacher at the Department of Media Studies at the <em>Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad<\/em> <strong>Dinko Gruhonji\u0107<\/strong>, <em>Jug Press<\/em> editor <strong>Ljiljana Stojanovi\u0107<\/strong>, and journalist <strong>Mirjana Jevtovi\u0107<\/strong>.<\/p><p>The award is handed out annually by the <em>Independent Journalists&#8217; Association of Serbia <\/em>(NUNS) with support from the Embassy of the United States of America, on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, which is celebrated on May 3.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The story about exports of Serbian weapons to Myanmar was among the best investigative stories published in the last year, the jury decided as part of the \u201cDejan Anastasijevi\u0107\u201d award for excellence in investigative journalism.
