{"id":19862,"date":"2017-05-18T11:27:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T09:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/cins-journalist-best-young-investigative-journalist-for-2016\/"},"modified":"2019-09-03T18:08:36","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T16:08:36","slug":"cins-journalist-best-young-investigative-journalist-for-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/cins-journalist-best-young-investigative-journalist-for-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"CINS Journalist Best Young Investigative Journalist for 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<strong>Milica \u0160ari\u0107<\/strong>, a journalist of the <em>Center for Investigative Journalism of Serbia <\/em>(CINS) has been declared today to be the best young journalist in 2016, as deemed by the jury awarding the prize of the European Union (EU) for investigative journalism in Serbia.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\t\u0160ari\u0107 has won this award for investigation on the construction of the new block of <em>Kostolac B<\/em> thermal power plant and expansion of <em>Drmno <\/em>coal mine, for which Serbia took a loan from the <em>Exim Bank <\/em>of China, where production of electric energy by lignite combustion will be continued.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\t\u201cThis investigation has directed attention on how this investment is fully in line with foreign laws, the PR of China\u2019s laws, and in opposition to national laws. This research puts Milica among the best according to any criterion and her prize is well deserved even beyond the young category\u201d, said the President of the jury, a journalist <strong>Ljubica Gojgi\u0107<\/strong> at the award winning ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\tThe award within the category \u201cbest story of a young investigative journalist\u201d was awarded this year for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis is the third award for CINS journalists in the past month, after the newsroom received <em>European Press Prize<\/em> for a series of articles on corruption and organized crime, while the <em>Independent Journalists\u2019 Association of Serbia<\/em> and the US Embassy awarded research of <strong>An\u0111ela Milivojevi\u0107&nbsp;<\/strong>on <strong>Jorgovanka Tabakovi\u0107<\/strong>\u2019s plagiarized doctoral thesis as the best online investigative story of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\tApart the one for Milica \u0160ari\u0107, another two EU awards were presented. The first award for investigative journalism was presented to <strong>Maja \u017divanovi\u0107<\/strong>, a journalist of the <em>Vojvodina Research and Analytical Center<\/em> (VOICE), for the series of articles on operations and debts of the state enterprise Novi Sad Gas. The second award went to a journalist <strong>Dragan Gmizi\u0107<\/strong>, for the documentary \u201cPlain without Birds\u201d, realized within the <em>Greenfield Production<\/em>, aired on TV <em>N1 <\/em>in August 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\tThe competition was open for investigative stories, published in 2016, on social issues related to the abuse of power and basic human rights, corruption and organized crime in Serbia, of which the public would otherwise not be aware.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\tMembers of the jury that evaluated the works included the following: <strong>Ljubica Gojgi\u0107<\/strong>, a journalist of the <em>Radio Television Vojvodina<\/em>, <strong>Rade Veljanovski<\/strong>, a professor at the <em>Faculty of Political Science<\/em>, <strong>Vladimir Barovi\u0107<\/strong>, a professor at the <em>Faculty of Philosophy<\/em> in Novi Sad, <strong>Milan Antonijevi\u0107<\/strong>, the Director of the <em>Lawyers\u2019 Committee for Human Rights<\/em>, and <strong>Mladen Veloji\u0107<\/strong>, the Director of the <em>Media Center<\/em> in Ni\u0161.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\tThe award was established by the Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission in accordance with the Strategy for the EU enlargement \u201cthat recognizes the expressed need for ensuring freedom of speech in the media, as well as for supporting investigative journalism in monitoring of the reform process and maintaining historical momentum towards EU accession\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\tThe award granting process is managed by a regional partnership of civil society organizations under the leadership of the <em>Peace Institute<\/em> from Ljubljana, selected for this task by the European Commission.
