{"id":19670,"date":"2018-08-22T14:29:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T12:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/lies-and-attacks-against-journalists-are-unacceptable\/"},"modified":"2019-09-17T17:16:22","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T15:16:22","slug":"lies-and-attacks-against-journalists-are-unacceptable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cins.rs\/en\/lies-and-attacks-against-journalists-are-unacceptable\/","title":{"rendered":"Lies and attacks against journalists are unacceptable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cAre you familiar with the name of <strong>Dino Jahi\u0107<\/strong>?\u201d<\/p><p>(Someone in the room asks: \u201cWhat does that name mean?\u201d)<\/p><p>\u201cTo me \u2013 it means a lot.\u201d<\/p><p>These are the words of <strong>Milorad Dodik<\/strong>, president of the Republic of Srpska, who attacked Dino Jahi\u0107, Editor-in-Chief of <em>Center for Investigative Journalism of Serbia <\/em>(CINS) at the press conference held on 21 August, accusing him of managing the centre which ravages political structures in the region using money from international organizations.<\/p><p>Dodik did not provide a single piece of evidence for his statement, also failing to explain what the name and surname of the CINS editor means to him.<\/p><p>CINS believes Dodik directly jeopardized safety of Jahi\u0107, other newsroom members, and their families in this manner, stating incorrect information and putting them in a wrong context. It is absolutely inacceptable and harassing that a person performing public function uses fabrications to win cheap political points and divert attention from truly important matters, such as spending citizens\u2019 money, and property belonging to officials.<\/p><p>It was politicians\u2019 property that was one of the topics of the conference \u2013 already covered for years by our colleagues from the Sarajevo <em>Center for Investigative Journalism<\/em> (CIN). We extend full support to our colleagues in their work on the database on property and revealing of facts of importance for citizens.<\/p><p>Dodik\u2019s press conference was held following a campaign on several portals which had started on the same morning. The text entitled \u201cDirty affairs of Soros\u2019s instructor\u201d stated a range of untrue facts on CINS and Jahi\u0107, such as that he is the instructor to Hungarian students against Hungarian president <strong>Viktor Orban <\/strong>and that he disposes with funds at the amount of $38 million USD.<\/p><p>The text first appeared at the portal Infosrpska.ba, but was taken over by the more influential <em>Radio Televizija Republike Srpske<\/em>, entity news agency <em>SRNA<\/em>, and Banja Luka-based <em>Alternativna televizija<\/em>.<\/p><p>It is shameful and very detrimental that media outlets, especially those financed from taxpayers\u2019 money, use this manner to label individuals and turn them into targets.<\/p><p>In agreement with lawyers, CINS and Jahi\u0107 will take all necessary legal actions.
